Uniting our passion and purpose to bring healthy and positive change through movement to Communities around the World.

Initiatives

Doing well and doing good is part of the unchanging core and future vision of New Balance. Through grants, global volunteerism, cooperative marketing, sponsorships, in-kind donations and more, New Balance and the New Balance Foundation aim to improve the health and well-being of children and families worldwide. We bring our NB Gives Back mission to life through three initiatives.

Moving Kids

To fuel the next generation’s passion for movement and the pursuit of lifelong health, well-being and success and inspire kids to discover and nurture their love of play.

Fighting Cancer

For over 28 years, New Balance has been committed to making an impact in the fight against cancer, utilizing exercise to help reduce the risk and aid in the recovery of cancer, and supporting leading organizations in their missions to find a cure.

Military

New Balance proudly supports our US service members, veterans and military families who have sacrificed for our freedom and protection.

Corporate Commitments

Through sponsorship and cooperative marketing, we help deserving organizations big and small raise awareness and funds for their causes.

NB Fitness Challenge

The Fitness Challenge was originally founded with help from Curtis Granderson to motivate kids to get outside and to get moving.

The community program promotes our mission to fuel the next generation’s passion for movement and the pursuit of lifelong health, well-being and success. We want to inspire kids to discover and nurture their movement spark.

Kids thrive when they are physically active. The goal is to challenge kids to stay active and lead a healthy lifestyle.

The Fitness Challenge consists of 1-day fitness events in multiple cities throughout the summer. The activities are designed to promote cardiovascular fitness, strength, and flexibility. NB athletes captain the events, provide inspiration and encouragement, and lead fitness games.

The NB Fitness Challenge is designed to engage the community, to bring awareness to the great work and play areas made possible by our host cities, community partners, and to inspire families to learn the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle and make play fun and safe.

Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team

Key New Balance Foundation Commitments

Boston Children’s Hospital

The New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center at Boston Children’s Hospital was established through visionary leadership, generosity and commitment to end childhood obesity. Established in 2011, the NBF Center drives overall health for its patients and the patient’s family.

The New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center reaches thousands of families through preventive services and educational programs, including OWL (Optimal Weight for Life) Clinic, Owl on the Road, OWL on the Water, OWL at the Gym, FitStart, research, and national conferences. Research has resulted in scientific publications influencing both grassroots programs and national nutrition policy. The established Fit Kit provides clear fitness and nutrition messaging, structured programming, guidance on establishing policy and methods for evaluating impact for diverse organizations serving children.

100 Mile Club

New Balance Foundation recognizes the importance of driving moderate-to-vigorous physical activity in all children. Beginning in 2013, New Balance Foundation has supported large-scale youth running initiatives, like 100 Mile Club, in an effort to increase opportunities for movement. 100 Mile Club is a school-based program challenging students to run, jog, or walk 100 miles over the course of the year, earning keepsake milestone incentives along the way.

Research shows that active kids do better academically, behaviorally, and physically, and schools are a great place for boosting children’s activity levels. Granting to programs like 100 Mile Club helps counteract the decrease in recess and physical education time plaguing many school districts. New Balance Foundation’s significant contributions to 100 Mile Club has helped propel this grassroots organization to new heights. Built on simplicity and scalability, 100 Mile Clubs serves schools across all 50 states and has been adopted in several other countries.

100 Mile Club has a long track record of working with schools to find the best way to implement the program while allowing children to develop a sustainable set of skills, confidence, and motivation to be healthy and active for life. Tens of thousands of students actively participate in 100 Mile Club each year. New Balance Foundation proudly serves as a lead supporter of 100 Mile Club.

Boys and Girls Clubs

New Balance Foundation has a long history of supporting local Boys & Girls Clubs. Significant annual grants to four clubs in Massachusetts and Maine fund innovative fitness, nutrition and academic programming, impacting hundreds of children and teens each year.

Boys and Girls Clubs provide youth in underserved communities with the support they need to break the cycle of poverty with high-impact programs addressing character development, educational opportunities and healthy lifestyles. The result is young people realizing their full potential as healthy, productive citizens. New Balance Foundation grants are earmarked for innovative programing focused on driving fitness, nutrition and academic achievement. The Foundation collaborates closely with executive directors and program managers to improve healthful eating, to drive moderate-to-vigorous exercise, and to implement the latest evidence-based solutions to childhood obesity prevention. Our most significant grant of $3M to West End House’s “Expect More” campaign contributes towards a new performing arts center, renovated gymnasium, expanded teen center, and teaching kitchen, along with program and staff support to better serve a growing population. In addition to financial grants, New Balance donates athletic shoes and apparel, sports equipment, volunteer support and professional expertise.

New Balance Foundation grant recipients include:
  • West End House Boys & Girls Club of Allston/Brighton, MA
  • Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence, MA
  • Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCA of Greater Waterville, ME
  • Boys & Girls Club of Dorchester, MA
